• Last year, you voted to give me a second mandate on the basis of my political guidelines. At the beginning of this year, you gave a strong endorsement to the Commission. In the process of investiture, we agreed to meet once a year to discuss the state of the Union. From now on, this is the moment when we will chart our work for the next 12 months.
    • According to the Treaty of Accession of Bulgaria, the remainder of the member countries in the EU have the right to unilaterally apply restrictions to their work markets for Bulgarians and Romanians until December 31, 2013.
    • On 23 March 2010, the European Parliament’s Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT) voted a report on the European Commission’s 2008 budget discharge. MEPs regretted that there were many irregularities in Bulgaria in 2008 and welcomed the progress made in recent years.
    • From 15 to 17 June 2010 representatives of the national parliament of China are visiting Strasbourg within the plenary session of the European parliament. MEP Iliana Ivanova, who is vice-chair of the EP delegation for relations with the People's Republic of China, presented the EU-China trade relations. The Bulgarian member is the author of the EP working document on the subject.
    • According to the Treaty of Accession of Bulgaria, the remainder of the member countries in the EU have the right to unilaterally apply restrictions to their work markets for Bulgarians and Romanians until December 31, 2013. The restrictive measures were incorporated as temporary, and aimed to avoid the movement of large numbers of immigrants from the new member countries to some of the ''older'' member countries. Currently Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, France, The United Kingdom and Ireland still continue to apply the restrictions.
    • Consumers in Europe receive more rights when they decide to take out a consumer credit loan if they wish to purchase a car, a washing machine or a TV. Leading Bulgarian financial institutions are prepared to ensure that clients’ rights are protected within their relationship. This was the main conclusion deriving from the Round Table on Good Practices in Credit Lending. The interested parties in the sphere of consumer lending gathered to discuss good practices and necessary improvements. An emerging important policy is the implementation of measures allowing consumers to be able to make an informed choice, compare offers and even benefit from a 14 day cooling off period.
